James Purdey & Sons Ltd was founded in London in 1814 and quickly became established as one of the world's pre-eminent builders of sporting guns and rifles. In 1882 new premises were opened at 57–58 South Audley Street, London W1 where the Purdey shop and the company's headquarters are situated to this day.
Today, Purdey's reputation for the exquisite craftsmanship of its bespoke guns is world-renowned. The company builds about 75 handcrafted sporting guns and rifles a year. It takes between 18 months to two years to complete a Purdey and all are hand made in the Purdey factory in Hammersmith, London.
The Purdey shop is also a showcase for the company's elegant and distinctively English range of sporting and country clothing and accessories.
